A Hoover date night can be dinner and a show without leaving town: a glass of wine in Ross Bridge, dinner at The Grove, then the Library Theatre or a comedy set at StarDome. For something lower-key, walk Aldridge Gardens before the gates close at 7 p.m. and end at a taproom.

Von’s, 3601 Market St., Suite 101, in Ross Bridge, is a wine bar and bottle shop founded by Brian and Jordan Von Hagel, with wine by the glass and bottle, beer, snacks and board games. Hours: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.

Farrelly’s Southern Bar & Kitchen, 5532 Grove Blvd., at The Grove: Southern dinner from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday, with happy hour at the bar from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday to Friday. Reservations are taken through its site.

A show

  • The Library Theatre, inside the Hoover Public Library, 200 Municipal Drive: a ticketed season of touring musicians, vocal groups and theater, now in its 34th season. The theater posts its seating chart and ticket schedule online and has accessible seating and hearing assistance.
  • StarDome Comedy Club, 1818 Data Drive: comedy shows, open mic nights and trivia bingo. It is 18 and over, with a two-item minimum in the showroom; 205-444-0008.

Late

Brock’s Gap Brewing, 500 Mineral Trace, Suite 100, is open until 11 p.m. Thursday to Saturday and 10 p.m. the rest of the week, with a taproom, an outdoor beer garden, food trucks and a main stage for live music.

Before dinner: a walk

Aldridge Gardens, 3530 Lorna Road, opens daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., with trails around its lake and sculpture throughout the grounds. The gardens ask visitors not to run on the trails.

Make a weekend of it
