Hoover road work this fall: Valleydale Road widenings, the I-459 Exit 9 interchange and Galleria Boulevard extension. Live closures on ALGO Traffic.

Last checked Oct. 17, 2026. This page is refreshed weekly. Project status comes from the City of Hoover’s Capital Projects Status list, last updated by the city Aug. 27; live closures from ALGO Traffic.

Three governments build and repair roads in Hoover. The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) runs the interstates, U.S. 31, U.S. 280 and state routes such as Alabama 150. Jefferson County and Shelby County maintain some roads in their parts of the city. Hoover Public Works maintains everything else inside city limits: pavement, signs, striping, shoulders, culverts and sidewalk repairs, according to the city’s Roadways page.

Live closures this week

ALDOT posts lane closures, crashes and roadwork on ALGO Traffic, its traveler information site and app. When we checked ALGO’s feed on Oct. 17, it listed no planned roadwork inside Hoover. Its long-running work zones in Jefferson County were on I-20/59 at Exit 104 (McAshan Drive) near McCalla, with shoulder closures scheduled to last until Feb. 28, 2027.

Short-term items change hourly, so check ALGO before you leave. Most of the incidents on the feed near Hoover this week were abandoned or disabled vehicles on I-65, I-459 and U.S. 280.

Updated Oct. 18: the drainage items above now follow the city’s newer Stormwater Advisory Team presentation. More in our story on Hoover’s stormwater fee and drainage projects.

The rest of the city’s list was last updated Aug. 27, so some target dates have passed without a new date. We will update the table when the city does.
